This chapter investigates how video games can contribute to a renewed sense of enchantment in contemporary digital culture. Rather than viewing games solely as entertainment, it explores how immersive gameplay experiences can offer players new ways of engaging with meaning, imagination, and even spiritual feeling. The concept of immersion is central to this discussion and is examined through various perspectives from game studies and media theory. Immersion is understood here as a multifaceted phenomenon that includes emotional involvement, narrative participation, and a strong sense of presence within fictional worlds. Drawing on recent research in the study of religion and popular culture, the chapter highlights how video games — like films, books, or TV series — can become spaces where people experience forms of symbolic or spiritual resonance. Using examples such as Dark Souls, Professor Layton, and Journey, the chapter shows how certain games allow players to explore ethical questions, mythical themes, or deeply atmospheric worlds that encourage reflection and emotional investment. In this sense, digital games are presented as part of a broader cultural shift toward what some scholars call a “re–enchantment” of everyday life — where technology, narrative, and play combine to create new experiences of wonder, connection, and imagination. By focusing on the interaction between player and game, this chapter proposes that video games can act as meaningful cultural forms, capable of offering moments of insight, engagement, and even transformation.
