The essay is a polyphonic attempt to think about the role of poetry in an age in which cultural life is dominated by an atmosphere of disenchantment, in the various meanings of the concept, pioneered by Max Weber at the beginning of the twentieth century. Hope, authenticity, and attention are the keywords in a conversation in which poetry does not stay on the margins of discourse but often monopolizes the scene. To remind us that poetry is always also rhythm and sound, the text ends with the testimony of two students from the Conservatory of Trento who, on December 17, 2024, during the conference dedicated to “Il senso incantato,” were entrusted with reading some poems by Italo Testa.
